Wordpress Website Design: All-Natural Skincare Website for Julie Leischner

August 13, 2010 by admin

I am so behind on posts here! I have been a busy busy gal, so please pardon the mess of posts I’m about to publish.

Earlier this year, Julie Leischner, a L’Bri independent representative, asked me to help her create a fresh, clean website for her to share skincare tips and also promote her business. Since she’s all about the aloe, we went with fresh colors like blue and green.

Are you looking for a website redesign? Looking to launch a website or blog? Let’s talk! I’m offering $50 off any Wordpress design service (complete site, not just modifications) until August 30. Send me an e-mail at amy@amykant-dot-com.

Wordpress Web Design: Fresh, Fun, FitMilwaukee.com

August 13, 2010 by admin

FitMilwaukee came into my life at a time I needed it most, so when founders Anne Munkwitz and Tracey Gessner were looking for someone to redesign the site, I jumped at the opportunity. Not only are these gals good friends, they’re also amazing athletes who inspire Milwaukeeans to get off the couch and get moving!

Before, FitMilwaukee.com was functional but lacked pizazz and a clear design. Now, it’s clean, fresh and easy to navigate. We moved the site to Wordpress from BlogEngine.net so it would be easier for the FitMilwaukee team to make changes to the site, without having to find a web designer/developer to do it for them.

I know Anne and Tracey love the new site, but just in case you don’t believe me, take a look at what Anne had to say:

Amy volunteered her time to completely redesign the FitMilwaukee.com website. Not only did she offer to, but she was EXCITED to help. That’s something notable about Amy — she tackles a project with full enthusiasm. She took one look at our existing logo and her wheels were turning. She put together a fabulous header – a scrolling montage of images of members of our community. She also selected perfect colors to complement our logo and make it pop, and ultimately made the site consistent and beautiful. She asked for our opinion the whole way, taking time to make changes for all the suggestions we had. She’s very open to input but also got us started with a vision that we could have never seen. She’s got a great eye for design and we are so happy with the way it turned out that sometimes I go to the site just to stare at how pretty it is!

- Anne Munkwitz, co-founder of FitMilwaukee.com

Wordpress Web Site Design: Little Saint Anything

March 21, 2010 by admin

I love having a variety of clients because it allows me to venture into different business genres. I have so much fun working with different kinds of clients – photographers, small business owners, artists, etc. It also lets me work with awesome bands like Little Saint Anything.

Little Saint Anything draws on the influences of bands like RHCP, Modest Mouse, White Stripes and Radiohead. They’re a clash between Led Zeppelin, the Chili’s and Jack White. Little Saint Anything likes that heavy but oh so sweet sound. They are located in Mequon and Glendale, Wisconsin.

When I was approached by Little Saint Anything, they told me they were just looking for a simple site – 4-5 pages deep – where they could have a few of their songs, some photos and other information about the band. Basically, they wanted a central place to tell family, friends and potential clients about. They were spread thin across a variety of social networks and band sites. Now they have everything in one place.

Web Design: Beta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta

December 22, 2009 by admin
Filed under Techie, Web design, services

As you may or may not know, I was in a sorority in college. I am proud to still be an Alpha Gam. In fact, I am the Vice-President Member Development Advisor for the Beta Epsilon Chapter at Carroll University. I am also the Alumnae Chapter President here in Milwaukee.

Last spring, the girls were talking about how badly they wanted a new Web site. When I took a look at the site, I knew they weren’t joking around. The site was outdated and was in dire need of a facelift.

So, the girls hired me to do a complete overhaul on the site before they started recruitment this fall.

Click on the image below to check out their site! (Note: Due to the winter hiatus, we are still waiting for a few pictures and some copy for the site… so don’t be alarmed if you see a “coming soon” graphic).

Meet Flo Mob

April 22, 2009 by admin

I’d like to introduce you to a new client of mine – Flo Mob. Learn more about this Austin-based rap group by reading their bio below or visiting their MySpace page.

Flo Mob is an Austin, Texas-based rap group with more than 10 years of experience performing together.

When people think about Flo Mob, they think of more than just music. They travel and perform like a real mob. Their energetic stage show keeps audiences entertained with top-notch lyrics and production. Flo Mob is a hybrid of knowledge, skill and fun but with swag, all wrapped up into a beautiful, shiny package.

The trio of men who make up Flo Mob are brothers Cedrick “HPT” Mason and Carnell “Cornbread” Gulley along with friend Derrick “Mr. Critical” McKinney. HPT and Bread met Mr. Crit in high school and the three had an immediate connection.

Flo Mob was created because the group felt something was missing from the Austin rap scene. When Bread was in California working on music, Mr. Crit and HPT would call him and share what they’d written over the phone. The magic spark was ignited. Bread came back to ATX and Flo Mob started buying beats from a local producer. Eventually, they were able to buy their own equipment and record their music at home.

The group struggled as a rap act in a rock ‘n’ roll and blues city. They began to perform around town at clubs and talent shows, and eventually won a local talent show four times in a row! They knew they were onto something when Flo Mob was named “Austin’s favorite rap group” by the Austin American Statesman.

Flo Mob has brought a worldwide spotlight on the ATX through their many accomplishments. Blaze magazine named Flo Mob “The Next to Blow” in the ATX and highlighted the
group with a full-page feature.  Flo Mob is also honored that “What You Know About That Wood!” was named the number one song on the Texas Top 100 Countdown.

Flo Mob draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye, the Isley Brothers, Michael Jackson, Prince, Tupac, Ice Cube, Biggie Smalls and countless others.

Flo Mob has headlined more than 100 local events, parties and fundraisers with their library of more than 500 songs. They have also opened for acts like Bun B of U.G.K., Lil Troy, Too Short, Lil Flip, Swisher House and many more.

Flo Mob is a family – they fight, they hug, they wrestle, but at the end of the day, they have a common goal – shining the light on Austin’s growing rap scene.

Kim Drury is a graphic designer and corporate communications specialist based in southeastern Missouri.

Kim has always had an affinity for art and design. As a child, she was often found with a drawing pad, a puzzle or her camera.

She thinks her interest in designing and laying out newsletters comes from her love of puzzles as a child. Kim calls newsletters digital puzzles.

Kim has been designing since 1997. She graduated from St. Louis University with a BA in Communication and a minor in Studio Art.

Kim started designing right out of college and worked at firms until 2002. After a short hiatus, she went back to school to get her teaching certificate in Elementary Art.

In the meantime, her freelance design business took off. Kim started freelancing full-time from her home in 2006. While she never did finish getting her teaching certificate, she hopes to go back to school and finish that some day.

Kim is currently a freelance corporate communications specialist through Kim Drury Graphic Design. She works with a variety of clientele, including those in the construction, pharmaceutical, retail, health and beauty and tourism industries.

Kim also works closely with a photography studio doing post-processing.

Biography: Traci Murphy

March 12, 2009 by admin

As you may know, I offer professional biography writing services. Here is one of my latest biographies, for the fabulous Traci Murphy, one of my colleagues at Pink Ink Studios. Learn a little more about Traci then, go check out her Web site!

Traci Murphy is a graphic designer and photographer living in Tampa, Florida.

Traci has always had an affinity for photography, growing up with a father who was a photo junkie. But it was when her daughter was born that her true love of photography and design emerged. In an effort to capture every moment and preserve those memories, she started scrapbooking.

This inspired her to step it up and study how photographers capture amazing shots. Traci started with baby steps – a little Powershot – and when she bought a Canon Rebel XT and her first 50mm lens, she was officially hooked, which is evidenced by all the groans she hears from her children whenever she pulls her camera out of the bag.

Once Traci had a better understanding of photography, she began designing digital scrapbooking products for guinea pigs – her friends – to use. In 2006, she opened a digital scrapbooking store, Traci Murphy Designs. Just one year later, she joined partner Corina Nielsen to open Funky Playground Designs. She now sells digital scrapbooking products in both stores and recently joined the design team at Pink Ink Studios, where she sells graphic resources for professional photographers.

In the fall of 2008, Traci took the plunge and began taking photographs professionally. She specializes in on-location lifestyle photography in the areas of maternity, newborn, infants and children, families and seniors.

Traci has an affinity for real-life photographs taken in natural light. Her goal is to capture the essence of what is real and what is “you” with each click.

Her style is a little eclectic, but is often described as chic. She moves with the groove and loves incorporating a variety of different effects to photos.

Traci is a huge sports fan and enjoys self-defense classes. She can make a cloverleaf shape with her tongue and can often be found dancing with her kids in the living room.

She currently lives in sunny and warm Tampa with her husband, Greg, and their three beautiful children, Delaney, Colin and Derek.
