I’ve been crafty

I’ve been a little crafty lately and have been VERY lax in updating my blog. Lots going on in my personal and professional lives but that is no excuse!

Here are some sneak peeks at some goodies I’ve made recently:

Sassafras Dress Cards

Dr. Seuss Pendants

Wanted: Artisans and Crafters

I am looking to do a new blog feature on handmade shops here on my blog. I’m still working on a name for it, but I think it will be fun. It will be a weekly or possibly bi-weekly feature, highlighting artists and their handiwork.

If you’d like to be considered for this feature, please post a comment with a link to your shop(s). Please let me know what makes your work different, unique or just plain cool.

Thanks and happy crafting!

Handmade Ornaments and Wall Decor

I’ve been busy working on some new projects to sell at the art/craft fair I’m doing with my dad next month. The date is quickly approaching (Nov. 9!) and I am trying to create projects that you won’t find at any other booth.

Here are some photos of my recent projects. All are using a peice of Maya Road Chipboard… but instead of using them the traditional way in an album, I’m using individual pages to create ornaments and wall hangings.

I used a variety of elements on these projects. I certainly can’t remember all of them anymore, but here’s a list of some of the contributing companies:

Maya Road, Basic Grey, My Mind’s Eye, Making Memories, Pink Paislee, Copic, Kenner Road Vintage Goodness, Prima, Sassafrass, Hambly, Jenni Bowlin, Queen & Co, Colorbox, Fiskars Scallop Punch (which, by the way is my new favorite toy), Crop-a-dile, Kaiser, Zip Dry, Therm-o-web, Glossy Accents, American Crafts, Scenic Route, thickers.

New Stuff on Etsy!

Here’s my Orange 4×6 frame with flowers. Click here to view it on etsy.

Next, is a similar frame. It’s more green and features more flowers and less gems. Click here to view the Etsy listing.

Finally (for tonight), we have a Scrapbooking/Paper Craft Kit, featuring items from the Basic Grey Line of products. Click here to view the listing on etsy.

A big thanks to my dad for letting me use his Nikon D50 SLR!!! the pictures turn out sooo much better than when i use my busted Canon Powershot A630. ;)

I took photos of a few more items I need to post on etsy and will hopefully take care of editing photos and posting them on Friday.

I’m very tired now, so I’m off to bed.

Handmade cards

I absolutely love making cards – greeting cards, postcards, note cards, invitations, thank yous, etc…

For awhile I’ve been thinking about starting a small business. I have taken the first step – opening an Etsy shop – and my father and I are exhibiting at a craft/artisan fair in November. I am also looking into selling some religious-themed items on consignment at my church’s bookstore.

Etsy has an Alchemy feature – where people can commission custom handmade work from the Etsy community. I have been looking over some of these solicitations for the past couple days and have almost placed a couple card/invitation-related bids.

I figure, it’s one way to start, right?

You see… some day, I would love to design/make custom, handmade wedding invitations, baby announcements, thank yous, etc.

What is the best way to start?

P.S. Gotta come up with a business card design… ugh.

P.P.S. the images in this post are ATCs (artist trading cards) I’ve made for swap-bot swaps.
