Eco-Friendly Coffee Cozies

Lately, while I’ve been watching TV or relaxing, I’ve been doing some knitting. I have created a couple of knitting patterns for coffee cozies/sleeves. They’re perfect for to-go cups, so you don’t need to use the cardboard sleeves they give you at starbucks. Plus, they’re pretty darn cute.

I’ve added a few to my Artfire and Etsy shops. Check them out!

My loyal readers reader probably know(s) that I’m a bit crafty and also passionate about going green. Now I’ve combined the two with my Starbucks addiction!

I knitted this coffee cozy over the weekend. Isn’t it cute? It fits any Starbucks to-go cup perfectly and is reusable.

So, I won’t have to use the cardboard sleeves anymore!

I’m hoping to get a few more done this week and then I’ll be posting them in my Artfire and Etsy shops! I’m also working on a couple variations on this pattern…

Common Grounds

Over the past few weeks, the pastors at my church have been doing a sermon series called “Common Grounds.” The inspiration for this series came from Starbucks coffee cups. (I kid you not-think this series caught my attention?) It’s been a really interesting sermon series and they center each sermon around a quote found on one of the cups. Here’s today’s quote:

“You can’t lead the people, if you don’t love the people. You can’t save the people, if you don’t serve the people.”
~Cornel West (Professor of Religion at Princeton University)

I’m not exactly sure just yet why this quote and sermon spoke to me so much. Perhaps it’s the bit about serving, and remembering that God put his Son here on the earth “not to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:28). Or, more likely, it’s because of the time I’ve spent in Guatemala with The Servant’s Heart.

This got me thinking about how this quote could be applied to the presidential race. Are we going to elect someone who LOVES the people? Someone who SERVES the people? Or are we going to elect someone who wants to LEAD and/or SAVE the people?

I’m not talking about any specific politician here… I just want to encourage you all to think about this as you make the decision of who to vote for this November.

Consider this your public service announcement. ;)
