Bloody Mary Brunch Tweetup in Milwaukee to benefit the Blood Center of Wisconsin

bloodybrunch

The first Bloody Mary Brunch hosted by @sarandipity, @templon and @amykant at @ajbombers will be Sunday, July 26, from 11am until we decide to leave.

There will be drink specials (check back next week for the details).

We are asking (but not requiring) all attendees to donate $5 to benefit the Blood Center of Wisconsin.

After all, this is a Bloody Mary Brunch. Since we should not be donating blood at this event, we thought that donating money to help a local charity would be a good idea.

Have you voted for your favorite day for the 1st ever Bloody Mary Brunch Tweetup?

Click on over to take our poll (which ends tomorrow).

The event is hosted by @sarandipity, @templon and myself.

We have some fun ideas for this event, which will benefit a local non-profit. Who says Tweeple can’t help out the community?

The plan right now is to host it at @ajbombers. Why? @blatzliquor showed us this twitpic, and we can’t NOT have a mini burger in our Bloody Marys!

I’m moving on up… to the Eastside…

After three years of living at home – which have been great – I am finally moving out of my parents’ house for the last(?) time.

After college, I moved back home to pay off some bills and to attempt to deal with my millions thousands of dollars in student loans.

Some people can’t believe that I’m 26 and still living with my parents, but it really hasn’t been that bad. I have a great relationship with my parents, I live here rent-free (I pay a couple of household bills and help clean around the house) and I have the entire second floor to myself. Plus, I work 2nd shift, my parents both work 1st, which means we really only see each other on the weekends. I don’t have a curfew, I get to be with my adorable doggies and I really don’t have it that rough.

That said, I’m moving out. Finally.

My younger sister and I will be moving into an adorable lower flat next month in Milwaukee’s lower east side. I cannot wait.

Did I mention I’m moving out?

The house has beautiful archways and hard wood floors. We will have plenty of space, plus a backyard (where our new landlord has already planted some veggies for us!) There is also a HUGE kitchen, which I am just itching to decorate.

Emily and I decided to split up the decorating – she gets the living room (black and white with red accents), I get the kitchen (vintage/retro/diner) and the bathroom will be rubber ducky-themed since she already has all that stuff. Our dining room will become a fabulous office/art studio/crafty space and our extra bedroom is going to be an oversized, walk-in closet. There are only 3 small closets in the entire apartment, so we figured the extra bedroom could be converted into one.

I will be so sad to leave my doggies at home (my parents won’t let me take them and the landlord doesn’t allow doggies), but I know I’ll be at the house often to visit them my parents.

I found an awesome, vintage 50s-style chrome table on craigslist for the kitchen, and found this fabulous retro spice rack on ebay!

My super cute new retro spice rack!

My Travel Nightmare

Last Friday, I embarked on quite the travel nightmare. The plan was for me to take the 6:15am Amtrak from Milwaukee to Chicago’s Union Station, then catch a 9am Megabus to St. Louis to visit one of my bestest friends, Holly McCaig. My itinerary called for me to arrive in St. Louis at 2:30 pm or so. I would have had about an hour to grab breakfast in Chicago.

As is pretty much everything in my life, enter Murphy’s Law.

I got to the train station before 6, printed my ticket at the kiosk and got in line to board the train. Tick tock, tick tock.  At approximately 6:37 am (see Twitter feed below), we were told there were mechanical problems with the train that could make it hard to stop. Awesome! I complained about missing my connection in Chicago and was told they could refund my train ticket and that I should check with Greyhound.

I didn’t really have another choice, as they didn’t know when the train would leave and there was no way I could catch my connection, so I had to take Greyhound all the way to St. Louis. Note: I will NEVER do this again.

The best way for you to learn about my trip is probably to just read through my tweets from Friday (scroll down to the bottom and work your way up. The tweets are in reverse-chronological order).

I’ll post more about the trip later this week. Enjoy.

  • Should be actually leaving decatur soon. At least I got some food. I hadn’t eaten since before 6am
  • Don’t know what part of the big champaign sign I didn’t understand. Shit this bus is making me stupid
  • Leaving decatur and I’m gonna punch the kid who just got on and is sitting behind me
  • THX for all the replies everyone. Sorry I can’t respond to them all right now. But I do appreciate it
  • The kids on this bus are going to get their asses kicked if they don’t shut up
  • Ok new bus? Even sketchier passengers. And I didn’t have a chance to pee. I do not want to use the toilet on board. Hope I can hold it
  • Apparently when they put chains on the bus has to reduce speed. If I don’t make my bus to St Louis I will cry
  • Shiznit. Amtrak all messed up so ill miss bus in Chicago. Now I have to take greyhound all the way. Sketchy folks on board. Awesome
  • Apparently the problem is with air pressure or something that would make it hard for the train to stop. Awesome
  • Mechanical problems with the train there will be a slight delay. I better get to Chicago in time to catch my bus!
